My second race of the year was the Scallywompus River Road Run 13.1, 10K, 5K & Skydome 10 Miler! The Skydome is a new, Challenging distance that was added last year. This was also the first half marathon of 2026 for Eric and me.

This Texas Hill Country race used to actually take place on River Road between New Braunfels and Canyon Lake. However, in recent years it was moved to Comfort Park, in Comfort, Texas.

It was a COLD and WINDY morning so although there was a big turnout, most runners stayed in their vehicles to keep warm until closer to the start of the race. Jorgina and I were able to find another Fanatic/Maniac for a team photo before the race.

As the start of the race was quickly approaching, they played the National Anthem and runners began lining up. ๐บ๐ธ

The Half Marathon and Skydome 10-Mile distances were up first at 8:AM, so we gathered at the Start Line. The 10K followed at 8:30 and then the 5K at 9:00.

Eric, Jorgina and I took a quick Start Line Selfie. ๐คณ

โฆand then off we ran, towards the rising sun.

The first mile of the race took us through an older residential neighborhood before bringing us to a small bridge-crossing over Cypress Creek.

By mile 2, we came to another (much larger) bridge-crossing that took us over the Guadalupe River.

From there we were led past the His Hill Cemetery and then continued towards His Hill Bible School which actually stood at the top of one of the steepest hills on the course. โช๏ธ

There was a (much needed) aid station just after His Hill and I was grateful for the wonderful volunteers that braved the cold (and wind) to be there for us. ๐๐ป

There was a Team RWB aid station where I saw our friend Cheryl and stopped for a quick selfie before taking a right turn onto the windiest stretch of the course. The wind was brutal and made the cold feel even colder! ๐ฅถ

As I approached the halfway point of this out-and-back race, Eric passed me coming around a bend by the TX Bar B Ranch B&B. Shortly after that I took a selfie at the turnaround sign before tackling the 2nd half of this hilly race.

The sunshine gave the illusion of warmth but it was still FREEZING and the challenge of climbing hill after hill was keeping me warm.

It was nice to see my HF Sister Jorgina out on the course and it was a true measure of the cold as she usually only runs in a sports bra and shorts, itโs very rare to see her so clothed.

I continued on, eventually making my way back to the bridge crossings again.

And then in the final mile of the race, I took notice of some unusual sightings along the residential roads leading back to the park.

The Finish Line was a welcome sight! ๐

โฆas was the Scallywompus Post Race Festival, which was already in full swing! ๐

There was music, dancing, plenty of post race food and beverages and just all around Good Times with the RunFam! ๐

They gave out awards and we celebrated the wins! ๐

I even won a bottle of Live Oak Texas Vodka from the dance contest! ๐บ๐ป

Of course, none of this would have been possible without the volunteers, the many vendors, the timing by IAAP, the photographers, the DJ and the Scallywompus Event Team (just to name a few) that worked tirelessly to make this race another successful running event for everyone that was willing to drive out into the Texas Hill Country to brave the cold temps and the strong winds for some awesome race swag and an epic afterparty! ๐

So CHEERS to Scallywompus, for staying true to their mottoโฆ โCome for the Race, Stay for the Party!โ ๐ป Always great races and ALWAYS a Fantastic Afterparty! ๐

โฆALWAYS the coolest Finisher Medals too!!! Race 1 (of 4) in the Scallywompus Texas Hill Country Series is in the books! ๐
