I’ve been running less and less lately. 🙁 Although my calf strain is healing, I found myself with a new non-running related injury the weekend before this race. The day after the Sand Crab night race on the beach in Port Aransas, I had gone swimming in the ocean and had my foot pierced by a stingray barb. 😭

It was an excruciating experience to say the least. The intensity of the pain only worsened over time and by the time my brother got me to an emergency room, I was told that there was nothing they could give me for the pain and the only way to neutralize the venom was to “cook it out” in scalding hot water. So it got much worse before it got better but it did indeed work! My X-rays were clear and I was discharged and given a cute little squishy stingray as a souvenir.

The very next morning we topped off our family vacation with a parasailing adventure, so I was hopeful about running by the next weekend. 🪂

So 6 days later… it’s race day and I haven’t worn an enclosed shoe since the incident. However at this point I’m also having pain in the top of my right foot. So I bandaged my left foot in hopes to keep the wound from reopening. Then I wore a compression sleeve on my left calf, as it’s still not 💯% and since I always wear my beer socks for this race, I wore one of my Run For Beer socks on my right leg and was just hoping to not have the right foot act up on me too much. 🙏🏻

I also decided to play it safe and step down from the 10K and only run the 5K at the Scallywompus, Remember The Alamo…Beer event held at The Den in La Vernia, Texas.

I was super nervous about the race (and how my injuries would hold up.) 😬 But I was also excited about seeing my RunFam! 😍

As always, Scallywompus delivered another awesome event! 🤩 There were so many booths with sponsors and vendors all along the start line chute! It felt like old times as runners gathered for the National Anthem before the start. 🇺🇸

…and off we go!!! 🏃🏻♂️🏃🏻♀️🏃🏻

The course ran us around a school, a cute neighborhood and then along Bluebonnet road back to The Den.

I completed my 5K but it was a tough run. 😣 I was in some pain but it wasn’t horrible. Calf wasn’t happy and my wounded left foot was tender and achey. Thankfully the right foot was holding up well so no pain there.

Shannon was coming in strong for her finish! She ran the 10K, which was a double loop and she did awesome! 😎

We earned our newest Scallywompus bling! They never disappoint with their medals! 🏅

In the true spirit of Scallywompus Racing, we came for the race and then we stayed for the party! 🥳🍻

I didn’t get to see everyone, as it was a huge turnout but I did manage to get some runfam selfies with some of my favorite athletes. 😍 So thankful for their encouragement and motivation. 💝
