Harbor Half

The Harbor Half Marathon in Corpus Christi, Texas, is my 15th Half Marathon for 2021. It’s the Highest Half in Texas! 😃 Oh how I’ve missed this event! I started running this one back in 2016. It’s in my hometown so I get to visit family when I’m there. But back in 2019 my son got very sick, very suddenly. Even though I was registered and had my trip all planned out, I had to cancel because although I’m a runner, I’m “Mama Kris” first. Then last year with the Pandemic, it just didn’t happen so HOORAY for 2021! 🥳

Shannon joined me and we arrived just as the sun was starting to rise, which made a nice backdrop for the Harbor Bridge. 🌅

Runners gathering for the National Anthem just before the start. 🇺🇸 In addition to the Half Marathon, there is a Half Marathon Relay as well as a 5K and 10K.

Snapped a quick start line selfie with Shannon before the start. 📸

The race starts at Whataburger Field and the first mile is just getting to the Harbor Bridge. Here runners are making there way onto the ramp towards an amazing view! (Only after a bit of climb.) 😬

Lovin the sunrise on the water as we make our way upward. 🌅

From the start line to the top of the Harbor Bridge is 1.5 miles.

Wow! What an AMAZING VIEW! 😍 The Texas State Aquarium, the USS Lexington and a beautiful sunrise from the top of the Harbor Bridge. 🐠 🚢 🌅

As we make our way (downhill 😃) from the bridge, we run along North Beach. 🏝

After North Beach we find our way onto another bridge… 🤭

By mile 6, on the other side of the second bridge, we run through Sunset Lake Park.

Sunset Lake Park is located between the shores of Nueces Bay and Corpus Christi Bay between Portland and Corpus Christi.

I actually LOVE this part of the course! It’s quite a change from the busy bridge. It’s peaceful and beautiful with the ocean on both sides. It’s about a mile long stretch and it’s the turnaround point of the Half Marathon course.

Had to get a shot of this guy as we ran through the park! 🇺🇸 How AWESOME is he? 😎

After the Park, we head back to the highway and here comes bridge/hill #2 again! 😧 But that view of downtown Corpus Christi, well that makes it all worth it! 😍

This Flamingo at one of the aid stations between the 2 bridges gave us a much needed giggle! 🥰 Reminded me of my son, who thought “flamingo” was the F-word until he was 6 years old! 🦩👀🤣

About 10 miles in and running back through North Beach! 🏖

Oh SNAP! Here we go again… 😳 Coming back up to the Harbor Bridge. This is where I lost Shannon! Lol She crushed that last “hill” while I slowed my roll just to catch my breath enough to make it up and over one last time before the finish. 🥵

By now the sunrise was over but the view was still just as breathtaking from the top of bridge! 💙

I made it over the bridge and now I’m on my way to Whataburger Field!

There was still plenty to see in that last mile!

Passing Hurricane Alley Waterpark, which is right behind Whataburger Field and the finish line is in sight! 🏁

The weather was absolutely PERFECT for this race too! It was a beautiful day and a gorgeous weekend. 😍

Even though it was a very quick trip, I’m so thankful to have been able to visit my Mom while we were in town! 💝 Hopefully we’ll be back to conquer this beautiful course again in 2022!
