Another great For the Love of Go event! π The Dos Rios Splash & Dash 5K was the PERFECT race for this South Texas heat! π

Starting with an early morning drive to New Braunfels, Texas we were ready for a fun family run. Weβd taken most of the month off and this has been our only running event for June, thankfully we made it a good one! π

The race was held at Cypress Bend Park and oh what a BEAUTIFUL setting for a race! π³

The sun was just coming up over the river and it was looking to be a GORGEOUS day! π

Team Shuler, all geared up and ready to race! π

But first, some pre-race playground time for the monkey! π Climbing and swingingβ¦ what a great warmup!!! π

The kids run was held just before the 5K start and we enjoyed watching all those fast little runners race to the finish! π₯°

National Anthem before the start. πΊπΈ What a great turnout!

Another race, another Start Line Selfie! π€³π»

And off we go!!! ππ»ββοΈ ππ»ββοΈ ππ»

Just past the Comal Cemetery was (the first) big hill. Not huge, but definitely a big incline. I didnβt run this one for pace, this was quality family time and I was enjoying spending time with my monkey. So we did some walking and ended up behind the stroller moms. π

There was some construction on the course and we ran on a hilly, unpaved road. π§

Eric was doing AWESOME! He was soaking wet from the river and already on his way back when we saw him! π

Right around the halfway point we made it to Prince Solms Park for the SPLASH portion of the race! π¦ There was a station to leave any unsecured items that you didnβt want to get wet or lost in the River like phones, glasses, socks, shoesβ¦ then runners would grab a tube and get in the river! π

My monkey hopped onto a tube and into the river but quickly changed his mind about the tube chute. π― So he did get to cool off in the water but then he got back out and waited for me to complete the challenge.

I had a blast! The tube chute was so much fun! It was cool and FAST and I got out of the river pumped and ready to sprint to the finish! π But first we got a quick pic together, we were all smiles and drenched in cool river water! πΈ

As we were passing the cemeteries on our way back, Eric had come back to find us (after completing his race) and relieved me to run while he joined the monkey for the last 1/2 mile.

The home stretch was a bit of an easy βtrail runβ along the river, it was BEAUTIFUL! π³

After I crossed the finish line, I went back for the boys! Look at him go!!! π With Daddy coaching him along he was making his Mad Dash to the finish line π

We were cooling down with these delicious frozen treats afterwards! π

And the monkey had some fun hula-hooping while the awards were being announced.

Congratulations Eric for placing 2nd in his age group for our first family running event since he got back from his deployment! π₯ He earned a sweet finisher medal and we had a super cool morning enjoying quality family time! π¨βπ©βπ¦ Weβre so thankful to have him back home with us! πΊπΈ
